It really gives me great pleasure to present Danish Review 2014, and not only because it contains some excellent articles and reviews. This year’s issue is special in two ways:
1) It is a cooperation between lecturers and students of Danish at four international universities:
UCL (University College London)
The University of Mons-Hainaut (Belgium)
The University of Texas at Austin
The University of Washington
I want to thank my colleagues and their students for their contribution to making this year’s issue a really interesting read.
2) It contains Danish articles in English translation side by side (translated by Tom Hoctor, supervised by me and Paul Garrett)
While not all articles are dual-language, I really feel that the two translated articles have added to the experience of reading the magazine, and I hope that people interested in or learning Danish will enjoy this feature.
As in previous years, the articles span a wide range of topics: the political right, gender theory and modern art. For the article on art, I really must extend my most sincere thanks to the museums and galleries that provided high-resolution pictures and copyright for free (full credits are given at the back of the magazine).
I want to thank Norvik Press for help with layout and printing, and UCL SELCS for providing generous funding.
A final thanks goes to Tom Hoctor for his professionalism in providing feedback, comments and for translating the articles into Danish – and his enthusiasm and good spirit when deadlines were approaching and work was piling up.
I hope you will enjoy the magazine – as usual, feedback can be sent to jesper@jesperhansen.co.uk or j.hansen@ucl.ac.uk
