Ser på deg (that’s when I know)

This is my attempt to write a Eurovision Song Contest kind of song. I am not really sure about the intro, but apart from that I like it 🙂

The piano-riff actually came to me while in Brescia, Italy playing on a really nice piano (the F#m chord that it is based on resonates with me for some reason) all the way back in 2013 or 2014. Back then I pictured it as a song accompanying some kind of animated film (its working title was “Disney-inspired song” for a long time).

When I picked it up again around 2016, adding the B-part – which I really like – the lyrics also began coming to me, now in Danish, and it became a story about lost love and moving on. The B-part, for some reason, just would not work out in Danish, and suddenly I had a part in Danish and one in English, thinking: why not…

In the end it became a Norwegian-English song, and I turned up the pop-parts by adding various brass and classical instruments. Something was still missing though, and it took a long time for middle-break to materialise; this has a folksy, central-European feel to it, and I feel this really complements the song and gives it a little something special.

Finally finishing it after 6 years has been really nice, and for all it is worth I hope someone might enjoy it (though I still don’t really understand producing, and every time I try I get more and more respect for the people doing this job behind the scenes).
